About the Event

Exclusive Access: The Global AI Debates – Final Round!

 

Your achievement in 2024 Fall TKEthics Olympiad or 2025 Spring TKEthics Olympiad grants your team direct entry into the final debate heats of the Global AI Debates! This is a prestigious debate and essay competition judged by experts from MIT, UCLA, Microsoft, Perplexity, OpenAI, and UC Berkeley.

No essay submission required – you go straight to the debate rounds!

 

Key Details

  • Teams: 2 members per debate team

  • Debate Rounds: Quarterfinals, semifinals, and grand final

  • Scheduling: Matches will be arranged in April based on student and judge time zones

  • Judges: Experts from leading universities and AI research institutions

  • Certificates: Provided by UC Berkeley

     

Team Formation Guidelines

  • If your team includes members in different age groups, register under the oldest member’s category.

  • If your original Olympiad team had an odd number of members (e.g., 3 or 5), you may form complete teams of two. If needed, extra members can bring in a new partner to compete

     

Schedule

  • April 5-25th, 2025: Live Debate Tournament – Elimination debates are held over zoom.

  • April 25-30th, 2025: Championship Debate – The final 2 teams compete in the championship debate.

 

Topics

  • Ages 8-9: Children should be allowed to have robot pets

  • Ages 10-11: Should students be allowed to use generative AI in school?

  • Ages 12-13: Should students be allowed to use generative AI in school?

  • Ages 14-15: Will AI developments reduce global poverty?

  • Ages 16-18: Will AI enhance human flourishing?

  • Ages 19-22: Will AI enhance human flourishing, or should frontier AI models be open source?
